Helping ShelterBox

Woodbridge Rotarians organised a street collection in the Thoroughfare in Woodbridge on 10 February 2023, six days after the Turkish/Syrian Earthquake. Through the generosity of local people we raised over £1,000 for ShelterBox.

This continued the Woodbridge Rotary’s tradition of supporting ShelterBox going back many years. ShelterBox was set up by the Rotary Club in Helston, Cornwall in 2000 and has rapidly grown to become a respected organisation in disaster relief. In the last 23 years, ShelterBox has helped people in 314 disasters in 97 different countries including Haiti, Ecuador, Guetamala, Afghanistan, Turkey, Syria, and Malawi.

Now operating from 3 distribution centres in Panama, Dubai and Philippines and working closely with UN Disaster Relief, ShelterBox is equipped to provide targeted help in the form of specialist tents, solar lights, blankets, and tools/materials for reconstruction to disaster areas. ShelterBox undertakes a thorough assessment of the situation before sending relief.

The supplies may be in the form of a ShelterBox (see the contents in the illustration below), the current cost of which is £590. They may also provide a selection of materials suited to the situation on the ground.

Woodbridge Rotary donated 3 ShelterBoxes to the communities affected by the Turkish/Syrian Earthquake.

We need to be ready for the next disaster, and with your help and support we can be. If you wish to donate to ShelterBox please do so via the Donate page.
