ST JOHNS METHODIST CHURCH

John Treadway, Our International Chair, reports: "Our Tools With A Mission (TWAM) project has been a great success with an enormous amount of material donated and with a wide range of items.

The photos below give some idea of what is now awaiting collection in Houchell's Yard.

This really has been a great community project and good public awareness of what our club can achieve.

The collection took place on the 16th June. It was more than one van load!

Tools With A Mission

Giving communities tools to build a future for themselves

TWAM are a Christian charity that collects unwanted usable tools, refurbishes them, and sorts them into trade tool kits for livelihood creation. They have a mission to empower people and groups in need, offering them a way through tools to put poverty in the past for good and begin their own sustainable careers. In doing so, they also enrich our local UK communities through volunteering opportunities and waste reduction, contributing significantly to environmental sustainability.

Through their 'local to global' model, they prevent over 200 tonnes of tools from crowding UK landfills annually and engage local communities, offering volunteering opportunities that nurture skills and foster social connections. The impact of their work resonates globally, as they supply refurbished tools to over 500 organisations in the UK and Sub-Saharan Africa. These tools equip individuals with the skills needed to completely transform their lives and communities.

By refurbishing and recycling, they save over 1,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, demonstrating their commitment to environmental sustainability. Their toolkits serve as catalysts for change, from supporting families and education to strengthening communities. Their local efforts have a global impact, helping to create a world where everyone has the chance to thrive.

They send tools to both Africa and the UK; to apply for tools for those areas, or to learn more visit the website - www.twam.co.uk
